Course Description

After the age of 1 month until the first birthday, the most common causes of infant death are related to unsafe sleep practices. This online training was designed to increase Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) risk reduction awareness and educate home visitors on how to promote safe sleep practices among families. Learners will learn how to use Motivational Interviewing techniques to help parents understand and motivate themselves to practice safe sleep recommendations with their infants. (MOD219) (Dec 2019)

Course Objectives: 

Upon completion of this training, home visitors will be able to:

  • Review safe sleep recommendations by the American Academy of Pediatrics
  • Identify ways to decrease the risk factors for sleep-related deaths in infants
  • Explain safe sleep recommendations to others
  • Recommend safe sleep resources to families and provide educational materials on how to reduce the risk of sleep-related infant death
