Course Description

The safety of a home visitor is as important as the work they do. Home visits are conducted in client homes and typically done solo. Home visitors should take action to educate, prepare, and protect themselves from potentially dangerous situations, as well as, know how to diffuse, and get away from unsafe circumstances if confronted. (MOD414) (New OCT 2020)

Course Objectives:

  • Home visitors will assess their own risk and current safety practices.
  • Home visitors will learn to plan, prepare, and carryout safe practices during a home visit.
  • Home Visitors will understand the need for boundaries, and learn to set healthy, professional boundaries between themselves and the families they serve.

Jodie Dailey, MSW, LCSW, MLIS

Jodie is an independently licensed social worker (LCSW) with over 20 years of experience working with children and families in school- and clinic-based mental health and early childhood development settings. She is the Director of the Arkansas Home Visiting Network (AHVN) Training Institute, which provides supplemental training for home visitors, parent educators, and other family support professionals state-wide. Her trainings and presentations are evidence-based and focus on building skills and knowledge using participant-based instructional design and experiential learning activities. She is currently working on and is expected to receive her Doctorate of Social Work (DSW) degree in 2025.

Mona Scott, M.Ed.

As the Instructional Design and Technology Specialist/Application Systems Analyst, Sr for the Arkansas Home Visiting Network Training Institute Mona develops technology-based instructional and informational materials and interventions applying adult learning principles. In addition to producing online content, Mona also manages the LMS, Thinkific, for our learners as well as provide reporting for continuing education credits. Other duties include website maintenance, graphic design, virtual training producing, and event planning.
